(Groups raise nearly $5,000)
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – January 30, 2007 — The Palm Beach Soccer Academy “Nomads” from Palm Beach Gardens recently teamed up with Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center (PBGMC) to form a team of more than 100 participants in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation “Race for the Cure” on January 20 in West Palm Beach.
PBGMC team captain and breast cancer survivor, Jackie Chapman, R.N., lead the team of hospital employees, soccer players and parents to raise nearly $5,000. Donations were gathered through event registration, a fundraiser held at the hospital, and matching gifts by the Tenet Healthcare Foundation. The money raised supports the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which is dedicated to fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in the local community and communities around the world.
“The Race for the Cure is the youth soccer team’s way of giving back to the community by raising money and awareness for finding a cure for cancer,” said Gary Walker, club founder and president. Walker, along with Kari Helander, manger of the 11-year old and younger soccer team, participated with the hospital for the second year in a row.
