Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center Food Drive Assists Over 200 Local Families

April 11, 2007

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – February 19, 2006 — Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center (PBGMC) recently participated in a hospital-wide food drive that collected over 800 pounds of food to assist over 200 local families. Employees brought in 809 pounds of food, which was donated to the “Strive Toward Excellence” program at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Park.

The food drive is part of a Tenet Healthcare Foundation “Feed the Need” initiative. Tenet Healthcare is the parent company of PBGMC. The Foundation matched one dollar per every pound of food collected, allowing the hospital to also present the “Strive Toward Excellence” program with a $809 donation on behalf of the Foundation.

The food totals were also counted as part of the national food drive effort, Souper Bowl of Caring. The movement is centered around the National Football League Super Bowl and mobilizes youth and community members to fight hunger in their communities.

“This is the second year that we have worked with this organization to help our local community and we are pleased to present a food and monetary donation,” said Dave Pettit, CEO of PBGMC. “Strive Toward Excellence is an important program and we commend the work they do to reach out to the families and children in our area.”

Strive Toward Excellence, Inc. is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves the needs of the people of Lake Park and surrounding communities. It works with children and familie to help with food, clothing and job training.
