Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is one of the first hospitals in Palm Beach County offering minimally invasive heart surgery as a treatment option for patients suffering from heart valve disease. Unlike traditional open heart surgery where the breast bone needs to be surgically separated, minimally invasive valve surgery is performed through a small incision between the ribs.

PBGMC is 1st in Palm Beach to Use New Test for Heart Attacks

Mar 27, 2018

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-(March 14th 2018)-Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is the first hospital in Palm Beach County now using the highly sensitive Troponin T.  This test allows physicians to accurately rule out patients presenting to the emergency department with chest pain who are not having a heart attack.  This technology increases the sensitivity for Troponin detection, which is the preferred biomarker in the diagnosis of a heart attack.  In addition to using an electrocardiogram and signs of ischemia, troponin is becoming a more standard way of diagnosing a heart attack.

“The highly sensitive Troponin T technology is a game changer in our community when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients who may be coming to our emergency room for a cardiac event,” said Dianne Goldenberg, chief executive officer at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. “Because of how quickly this test can be resulted, it can allow our medical staff to make decisions faster and effectively based on the results.”

Every 43 seconds someone in the U.S. has a heart attack, or acute myocardial infraction (AMI), which occurs when the blood supply to an area of the heart is interrupted.  The longer time the heart is without proper supply, the greater the damage.  Troponin, a specific marker of cardiac cell death, is released into the blood stream when cardiac cells are being damaged.

When it comes to your heart, you need someone you can trust. For more than three decades, the Heart & Vascular Institute at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has delivered advanced cardiac care to the community.  For more information go to our website at https://www.pbgmc.com/our-services/heart
