Feb 2, 2024

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fl – Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center (PBGMC) earns The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

The certification recognizes health care organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for hip and knee replacements.

PBGMC underwent a rigorous, onsite review on October 6th, 2023. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated the orthopedic program’s compliance with related certification standards including program management, supporting self-management, clinical information management, performance measurement, and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The onsite review evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge. The reviewer also conducted observations and patient and staff interviews.

“Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend PBGMC for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”

PBGMC interim CEO Libby Flippo said, “I am immensely proud to announce our achievement in earning The Joint Commission's certification for hip and knee replacement. This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional quality care, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standards of excellence in orthopedic services. It is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our healthcare professionals who strive tirelessly to enhance the well-being of those we serve. The Joint Commission certification requirements include: compliance with consensus-based national standards, effective integration of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care, and an organized approach to performance measurement and performance improvement.
