What is Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

Small particles are injected through a catheter to block the flow of blood to the fibroids. This process deprives the fibroids of the oxygen and nutrients required for them to grow. As a result, the procedure is designed to ultimately shrink the fibroids. Patients typically need to stay in the hospital overnight, but some can go home day of, and most can resume their normal activities within 7 to 10 days.
